Darent Valley Hospital

Darent Valley Hospital is a magnificent modern hospital located in the Southeast of England, built for the 21st Century. The hospital provides an extensive range of acute, mainly hospital-based health services to the local community and neighbouring districts. It is particularly proud to offer patients safe, clean, comfortable and bright surroundings in which to recover and boasts warm, friendly and professional staff.
The hospital's proficient team of around 1900 staff provide care for approximately 200,000 patients every year in its 460 beds and provides a full range of in-patient, day-patient and out-patient care. The Trust’s annual budget is around £100 million.
In July 2005 the Woodland Treatment Centre opened becoming the first NHS Treatment Centre in Kent boasting an impressive and contemporary design set in the picturesque Darenth Park. The Treatment Centre has beds for day-case or 23 hour short stay patients as well as private patient facilities.
The Trust's new Heart Centre opened in the autumn of 2006 and is prestigious, spacious and relaxing, so that patients and staff feel at ease. The new Centre offers patients who currently travel to London for treatment a locally based service.
The acute services are based at Darent Valley Hospital with various outpatient and therapy services provided at Gravesend Community Hospital.
The Trust works in partnership with the Kent & Medway Strategic Health Authority, Dartford, Gravesham & Swanley Primary Care Trust, Kent County Council, Social Services and its Private Finance Initiative (PFI) Partners to ensure that the best possible care is provided not just in hospital but also throughout the local health economy.
The hospital is run as part of a Private Finance Initiative (PFI). This means the hospital is owned by The Hospital Company (Dartford) Limited, a private sector company, and the Trust leases the building.
